ABOUT ME
Matthew Mahoney (he/they) is nonbinary actor, voice actor, and content creator currently residing in Chicago, IL. Matthew combines their speech pathology education and acting training to pursue their life-long dream of being an entertainer!
Matthew (or Matt to most) was born in Pittsburgh, PA and lived there since he was 11. So yes, their natural speaking dialect is a pretty unique Pittsburgh accent, much to the behest of acting teachers not knowing how to deal with the very… unique ways they speak. Before moving, he was a wiz on the golf course, normally getting pars on adult courses.
After moving to Denver, Matthew wished to figure out what interested them as a “realistic job.” Starting out in robotics, Matthew eventually competed in an International Robotic Olympiad and won bronze for making robots dance to the tune of “Happy” by Pharell Williams (while the robots were dressed in Minion costumes, of course). Matthew also attempted architecture, engineering, and was pretty sure psychology was the route they were going down.
Throughout this whole “career excursion,” Matthew was a core member of their high school theater, acting in 11 productions and assisting in set building and any tech that may be needed. Their senior year of high school, they also won a “Superior” score at the International Thescon.
When Matthew started college at Purdue University, they eventually picked a double major in Acting and Speech Pathology. Focusing on those, Matthew learned advanced vocal science from one of the top rated Speech Pathology universities in the country, following Stanislavski and Meisner acting techniques, learned “biomechanics” from The Alexander Technique, and combined all these for an advanced understanding of dialects and vocal health. These efforts led Matthew to having access to a dialects course as a senior, typically intended for acting students in the middle of getting their Masters degrees.
After graduating… it took an extremely long time to find a bills-paying job with stability. While Matthew wishes he could have started their acting journey sooner, he’s happy he had the time to learn and better himself in the time it took to find that stability. It also took those four years of trial-and-error to ultimately find his true passion: voice acting. Since starting this chapter of their VA journey in July of 2025, they have soaked up information like a sponge.
Currently, after their 8-4, with whatever free time they have, Matthew LOVES a good board game (find The Collection in the background of any Zoom meeting they’re in), watching D&D (and hoping to play it again soon), and reading a good queer book. Matthew also enjoys gaming and anime, all while crying like a little baby at high-octane plot points.
